Indigo Laser Optic Treatment System: Prostate enlargement is a common problem for men beginning as early as age 45. In fact, by age 80, 80% of all men experience symptoms of non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. A significant percentage of these men usually require surgery. Fortunately, a minimally invasive treatment for symptoms of an enlarged prostate gland is now available at MKMG. Called the Indigo Laser Optic Treatment System, the procedure is performed by Dr. Roger Riechers, Urologist, and takes only a few minutes. The Indigo Laser Optic Treatment System offers numerous advantages over traditional therapies: it is effective, convenient, affordable and significantly less invasive. During the procedure, the prostate is observed clearly through the standard method of cystoscopy. Then, a fiber is inserted into the prostate gland, which is heated to 85 degrees centigrade for a brief time, resulting in coagulation of the tissue. This is followed over several months by shrinkage of the obstructing tissues and opening of the passage, thus relieving the patient’s symptoms. For more information on the Indigo Laser Optic Treatment System, contact Dr. Riechers at 241-1050.
