| Are your nights plagued by fits of snoring that consistently wake you from sleep? Is your partner’s snoring driving you crazy? Have you tried other snoring remedies only to find that they have not been successful?
If so, you are not alone. Approximately 40 million Americans suffer from habitual snoring, which can cause frequent arousals from sleep and affect health and productivity during the day. Snoring is caused by the vibration of structures in the nose, throat and mouth that relax and flutter during sleep.
Fortunately, a solution is now available for chronic sufferers at MKMG’s Aesthetic Surgery Center: a simple, surgical procedure that has proven more than 90% effective in the elimination of snoring. The procedure, Radio Frequency Surgical Ablation (RFTA) is performed by Dr. John C. Scott, Otolaryngologist and Facial Plastic Surgeon.
“The outcomes have been outstanding with this procedure, which causes much less pain than previously performed procedures,” said Dr. Scott. “For many people, RFTA is a safe, comfortable and effective solution to a chronic and disturbing problem.”
RFTA takes approximately 30-40 minutes and requires only local anesthesia. A radio frequency probe delivers thermal energy to the inner layer of the uvula (the flap that hangs in the back of the throat which causes snoring) and creates lesions in the tissue. These lesions are naturally absorbed by the body within three weeks, resulting in a stiffening and shrinking of tissue and, in more than 90% of cases, the elimination of snoring.
RFTA is less invasive than laser surgery, and is painless once the anesthesia is administered. The cost of the procedure is $2,000, which includes a repeat treatment if necessary. RFTA is generally not covered by health insurance carriers.
