2. Patient Care Coordinator Program
Introducing The Patient Care Coordinator Program
"The secret of the care of the patient is in caring for the patient." — From Francis Peabody's famed 1926 address to the Harvard Medical School
Over three-quarters of a century later, Peabody’s words have become the inspiration for the Patient Care Coordinator Program. Launched in March, this innovative program offers much more than hand-holding for a seriously ill patient. An integral member of the Medical Group team, the Patient Care Coordinator will provide the patient with information, emotional support and, above all, hope as a welcome extension to the physician’s medical skills.
The Patient Care Coordinator will: - provide assurance that the patient will be fully cared for, extending the doctor's medical skills, - be there for patients throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery, - help patients to communicate their needs to the medical staff, - provide added support by putting the patient in touch with others recovering from the same condition or similar conditions, - assist patients in using the information and resources available to them (libraries, periodicals, websites, and the like), - offer support to the family as well.
Although brand new, MKMG expects that the Patient Care Coordinator Program will prove to be a significant added benefit for both patients and families. It is one more way that MKMG can provide our patients with care of the highest quality.
