For Immediate Release Date: March 27, 2008 MKMG Introduces a New Laser for Glaucoma Treatment The Mount Kisco Medical Group is excited to announce their new laser system for the treatment of glaucoma. This new laser system has the ability to perform micropulse laser trabeculoplasty, which is beyond the cutting edge of glaucoma treatments.
The only other institutions east of the Mississippi that have this technology are the Wills Eye Institute and the University of Pittsburgh. The technology uses micropulses of laser energy to gently warm the trabecular meshwork and incite a low grade phagocytitic response, effectively creating a vacuum-cleaner effect. It also loosens up the trabecular meshwork by setting off a cascade of cellular changes involving matrix metalloproteases. The net effect is to improve aqueous outflow and lower intraocular pressure. Unlike previous generations of laser treatments, this new technology can be repeated, because no tissue destruction occurs. This cutting edge glaucoma technology is a huge advantage to our community. Dr. Trivedi is thrilled to be able to offer this glaucoma treatment to patients. For more information or to schedule an appointment please call Dr. Trivedi at 914-242-1355 (Mount Kisco office) or 845-278-4300 (Carmel Office).
