For Immediate Release DATE: 8/6/08 MKMG Pulmonary Article Published The Mount Kisco Medical Group is pleased to announce that the peer-reviewed and respected medical journal, “Clinical Pulmonary Medicine” has published an article by Dr. Sergio Bures, entitled “Cystic Lung Disease and Birt-Hogg-Dube Syndrome”. This article discusses the diagnosis and management of the syndrome. Dr. Bures is a specialist in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine in the Internal Medicine Department of MKMG practicing in the Katonah Office. He received his education at Albany Medical College, William Beaumont Army Medical Center, and Tripler Army Medical Center. He completed fellowships in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. In Dr. Bures’ article, he discusses the importance of the diagnosis and management of Birt-Hogg-Dube Syndrome (BHD). BHD is a familial syndrome that leads to the development of lung cysts and carries a significantly increased risk of spontaneous pneumothorax. Dr. Bures highlights the imperativeness of recognizing the syndrome by chest physicians. Dr. Bures’ article concludes that BHD is a rare cause of cystic lung disease, which can frequently be identified by nature of the x-ray abnormalities and appropriate family history. Genetic counseling and screening for kidney cancer is recommended.
