For Immediate Release DATE: September 3, 2008 MKMG Hand Surgeon's Research and Article Published The Mount Kisco Medical Group is pleased announce that Dr. Simon Chin’s research article has been published in the well regarded publication “Journal of Hand Surgery.” Dr. Simon Chin is a Hand Surgeon, as well as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. He has trained extensively by completing residencies in general and plastic surgery as well as fellowships in both aesthetic surgery and orthopedic hand surgery. The purpose of the study was to compare clinical and radiographic outcomes in patients with chronic scapholunate dissociation treated with a modified Brunelli technique versus a 4-bone tendon weave. In the study, 23 patients were treated with a 4-bone tendon weave technique. A separate group of 21 patients were treated with a modified Brunelli plus reduction-assisted scapholunate ligament technique. Evaluation included radiographic changes, pain and Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire scores, grip strength and range of motion. The results concluded that the modified Brunelli technique for scapholunate interosseous ligament reconstruction compared with the 4-bone tendon weave technique has improved outcomes in pain relief, DASH scores, range of motion, and grip strength at 2.5 year follow-up.
